RealityScan is more productized than raw COLMAP. It helps users capture objects and environments with guided workflows, then process them through Epic’s scanning stack.

For 3DGS users, it belongs in the alignment and asset-preparation conversation: especially when the goal is a usable 3D asset rather than a research dataset.

How To Use It In 3DGS

  • Use the mobile app or desktop flow to capture the subject with strong overlap.
  • Process the scan and inspect whether the asset captures the intended surfaces.
  • Export or move the result into the downstream toolchain supported by your project.
  • Use a 3DGS viewer or editor if you produce or convert a splat asset later in the pipeline.
