Polycam

Polycam is a mobile and web 3D capture platform that can create Gaussian Splats from uploaded images or videos and export them for downstream tools.

What It Does

Polycam is one of the easiest ways to make a splat without managing COLMAP, CUDA, or training scripts. Upload images or video, let the cloud process it, then export or share.

It is especially good for quick field captures and creators who want a polished app experience before moving to editors like SuperSplat or viewers like 3DGS Viewer.

How To Use It In 3DGS

  • Capture images or video with high overlap and stable lighting.
  • Upload through Polycam’s Gaussian Splat creation flow.
  • Export the splat in the format required by your target viewer or engine.
  • Clean the result in SuperSplat or preview it in 3DGS Viewer before publishing.

Things To Watch

  • Export availability depends on plan, platform, capture type, and current Polycam rules.
  • Cloud convenience does not remove capture constraints such as motion blur or reflective surfaces.
  • For game-engine collision, you may need a mesh export in addition to the visual splat.

Current Export Reality

  • Polycam’s web Gaussian Splat creator accepts image sets or video; docs list 20-1000 PNG/JPG images or 15 seconds to 15 minutes of video, up to 15GB.
  • For Unreal workflows, Polycam recommends exporting PLY for the splat visual and GLTF for collision geometry, then cleaning the PLY in SuperSplat.
  • Plan and format availability vary, so check export support before promising PLY, point cloud, or mesh deliverables.
