Photogrammetry Suite

Agisoft Metashape

Agisoft Metashape is professional photogrammetry software for processing digital images into accurate 3D spatial data.

What It Does

Metashape is not a 3DGS trainer, but it is valuable upstream. If your team already uses Metashape for reliable photogrammetry, it can serve as the alignment and spatial-data foundation for later splat processing.

It is especially relevant when accuracy, coordinate systems, georeferencing, or professional reporting matter alongside photorealistic viewing.

How To Use It In 3DGS

  • Import a controlled image set from camera or drone capture.
  • Align photos and inspect camera quality before generating dense outputs.
  • Export camera and point data in a form your 3DGS trainer can consume or convert.
  • Use a splat viewer after training to compare visual quality with photogrammetry outputs.

Things To Watch

  • Metashape’s rich photogrammetry outputs do not automatically mean a 3DGS trainer accepts every export directly.
  • Coordinate systems and scale should be documented before moving to other tools.
  • Professional accuracy settings can increase processing time beyond what a visual-only splat needs.

Edition And Sensor Notes

  • Professional Edition is the relevant choice for GCPs, georeferencing, DEM/DTM, orthomosaics, aerial workflows, LiDAR support, Python API, and network/cloud processing.
  • Standard Edition can still be useful for close-range model generation, but it is less suited to survey-grade 3DGS datasets.
  • Metashape supports spherical and cylindrical cameras, which matters if your capture comes from panoramic rigs rather than ordinary frame cameras.
