3DGS Render for Blender

3DGS Render by KIRI Engine is a Blender addon for importing, editing, rendering, and animating Gaussian Splatting content in a familiar DCC environment.

Stage: RenderingBlender artistsAnimationHybrid DCC workflows

What It Does

Most Gaussian Splatting tools live in viewers, trainers, or web apps. This addon is useful because it brings splats into Blender, where artists already have cameras, timelines, compositing, and scene-building tools.

It is especially helpful when a splat becomes one element in a broader visual scene rather than the whole experience.

How To Use It In 3DGS

  • Install the addon version that matches your Blender release.
  • Import a supported Gaussian Splat asset and inspect scale, orientation, and bounds.
  • Set up Blender cameras, animation, lighting context, or hybrid scene elements.
  • Render tests and verify that the addon version handles your file and Blender version correctly.

Things To Watch

  • Blender version changes can break addons, so pin a tested version for client work.
  • Splats are not regular meshes, so collision, deformation, and material workflows differ.
  • Keep a source file outside Blender for conversion and recovery.

Version 4 Workflow

  • The v4 addon split is important: Edit mode keeps legacy mesh-like editing, while Render mode enables real-time/offline Gaussian Splat rendering without mesh-object performance constraints.
  • Use LQ transparency while blocking a scene and switch to HQ mode only for final checks, since HQ is smoother but more performance intensive.
  • Do not apply Blender’s native rotation/scale transforms directly to splat objects; use the addon’s Apply 3DGS Transforms and Colour path.
